Senior Director of Resource Development & External Affairs (Hybrid) – Basking Ridge, NJ – $90k – $130k, d/o/e
This well-established client needs a dynamic, mission-driven leader with proven experience in fundraising strategy, grant writing, corporate sponsorships, marketing, and external relations.
Responsibilities include:
Leadership & Strategy
- Develop and implement an integrated resource development and external relations strategy.
- Supervise and provide guidance to the Director of Fundraising and Marketing Manager.
- Collaborate with the Executive Director on strategic initiatives, Board engagement, and organizational planning.
- Track and report on development goals, donor pipelines, and outreach metrics.
Fundraising & Donor Engagement
- Design and execute comprehensive fundraising plans including individual giving, corporate partnerships, major gifts, special events, and annual campaigns.
- Support and oversee grant writing processes including identifying opportunities, developing proposals, and tracking compliance/reporting.
- Cultivate and maintain relationships with individual donors, foundations, and corporate sponsors.
- Drive donor stewardship strategies to deepen engagement and retention.
External Affairs & Communications
- Serve as the primary ambassador of the organization in external events, partnerships, and public relations efforts.
- Oversee all external communications, including digital marketing, public outreach, newsletters, annual reports, and branding.
- Work closely with the Marketing Manager to maintain a strong and cohesive brand presence across all channels.
- Develop media relationships and secure positive coverage in local and national outlets.
Corporate Sponsorship & Strategic Partnerships
- Identify and secure strategic partnerships that support program growth and financial sustainability.
- Develop sponsorship packages and manage benefit fulfillment.
- Represent the organization in partnership meetings, conferences, and donor events.
Team Management & Collaboration
- Provide strong, values-based leadership to direct reports, fostering a culture of accountability, innovation, and impact.
- Support professional development and performance management for team members.
- Work cross-functionally with program and operations teams to align messaging, priorities, and funding needs.
Requirements include:
- Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, marketing, communications, business, or related field; Master’s degree preferred.
- Minimum 7–10 years of experience in nonprofit fundraising, resource development, and external affairs.
- Demonstrated success in managing comprehensive fundraising campaigns and securing major gifts/sponsorships.
- Strong knowledge of marketing, public relations, and branding in the nonprofit sector.
- Experience with grant writing and reporting.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong leadership experience, including staff supervision and team-building.
